Capt. David Irwin is a true born and raised conch. David grew up in Marathon and has been fishing the lower keys since a young boy. David is the son of longtime Key West guide and legend Capt. Johnny Irwin. David’s extreme knowledge of the local waters makes him one of the most in tuned guides in the lower keys. From the Marquesas to Big Pine Key, he knows spots that were passed down from generation to generation. David is extremely patient, knowledgeable and one of the nicest guides in Key West.
Capt. David is one of those guides that has truly done it all. His passion to be on the water is second to none. Commercial fishing, recreational fishing, charter fishing, you name it, he’s done it.
Capt. David is the ‘whatever it takes’ kind of guide. Most days he never comes home on time, extending his trips because he truly enjoys spending time on the water with new friends. Capt. David is the guy at the dock that won’t stop talking about fishing! On the water he is truly in his element. Spending the day with Capt. David is one of the best experiences you can have on the water.

Excellent day on the water
Took my brother out for some backwater fishing with Captain David Irwin who put us on fish first with some mangrove snapper, after putting enough on ice he then hooked us up to some shark. Will definitely be back for more with Captain Dave.
Thanks for a memorable trip…
Back-country Action
My three sons, ages 27, 23, and 23 spent a fun 3/4 day with Captain David Irwin on his 24 foot Tarpon/Bay Boat during our stay in Key West. My sons and I like to fish, and have done so in Costa Rica, Nicaragua, and other venues, as parts of our vacations together. We spoke with Captain Dave the night before our trip, and discussed catching some fish to eat, and then perhaps catching some Barracuda and sharks. We went to the shallows around some of the nearby islands where we were the only boat in sight. Captain Dave knew the waters well, being a native of Key West, and negotiated the channels easily right up to the Mangroves on the islands. Although we have fishing experience, he gave us some helpful tips on casting into the shallow water to draw out the larger Mangrove snapper in only a few feet of water. We caught six nice Mangrove Snapper that he later cleaned, and they made for a wonderful meal that we grilled when we returned to shore. We also caught several barracuda, saw Lemon Sharks, and even had an experience of a Grouper eating one of the Snapper we had hooked before we could land him. Captain Dave was entertaining, accommodating and knowledgeable, and we had a great time!
Winner, winner, Snapper Dinner!
This was our second time to use Key West Pro Guides and again we were not disappointed. Captain David Irwin was excellent in working to insure we had a great time. He put us on Yellowtail Snapper on the reef and we had a ton of success. I definitely recommend asking for him. I know I will the next time we fish Key West! Thanks for another wonderful day of memories with the family.
Caught fish in high wind and… We had a great time!
A back-country fishing trip in the afternoon with Capt. David Irwin who had already had a morning trip. Sales, service and military all were onboard. Our request for our half-day trip…to catch fish, have enough to eat when we got back and have a fun trip. We received all in bounty despite the high winds. Capt. Irwin’s anchor held true and his knowledge/hospitality were appreciated. We fished great and ate well. The Key West Songwriters’ Festival was amazing but our fishing trip was probably the highlight! Delighted!!!!
The name says it all!
Took a half day fishing trip with Captain David Irwin and had a blast. He did everything he could to put us on the fish. We caught over 40 fish including barracuda, mangrove snapper, grouper, and a 6ft lemon shark. Pro Guides was our 2nd charter of the trip and was much better than the first charter company we took. Can’t wait to go back.
Awesome Fishing Trip
Just completed a 3/4 day trip with David Irwin. My family had the best day fishing, hauling in a boat load of fish. We were able to reel in 25 mangrove snapper, 18 yellowtail snapper and a twelve pound Yellowjack. That haul doesn’t include the many lost and thrown back. My oldest was excited reeling up a very large sand shark.Captain Dave was very helpful, patient, and informative teaching my younger son the art of fishing. This captain to book with. Thanks captain David. The marina is out of Hurricane Hole Marina near cow key bridge.
Thanks again Key West Pro Guides.
