Captain Eric Ryan
Originally from Michigan, Eric grew up with his three brothers fishing, boating, skiing and a bunch of other outdoor stuff. After graduating high school, Eric went to school at night and worked during the day as a mechanical designer. Realizing engineering wasn't for him, he decided to head south for the sun and the laid back lifestyle. The Florida Keys are a unique set of islands right here in our home country. The way of life down here is a little bitl slower, a bit weirder and definitely does not feel like part of mainland Florida. When Eric and his girlfriend leave for vacation, they are always excited to come home to the keys (He says he has never felt that way anywhere else).
Eric has been fishing the keys since 2001 and is a USCGC captain. Eric loves the many different types of fish and fishing that the Keys have to offer. Eric has also been a fishing guide in Alaska and the Virgin Islands. Although both are beautiful places with great fishing, fishing in the Florida Keys ranks #1 on his list. Eric also loves the fact that he get to spend his days on the water catching fish with people from all around the world. He's often asked "what do you do on your days off?" Fishing is a way of life for him. He spends most of his days "off" either fishing, doing tackle and boat maintenance, tying flies or anything else related to fishing. He loves the saying of "Who is catching Who?" Because he knows he's been caught by the passion for fishing.
Many, Many thanks on the referral to Capt. Eric Ryan. We had an absolute ball with him yesterday afternoon. Eric showed us some incredible scenery in the refuge and we caught lots of fun fish. Now that I'm back in cold Minnesota I wish I had booked a few days :) Please ask Eric to send the pics that he took on his phone, we'd like to show off to our friends what we caught. See you soon... Booked a fishing trip with Pro Guides last minute. They set us up with Eric Ryan on a flats trip. we wanted Permit or Tarpon, ended up getting one of each.... For both of us! First line in, hooked up the Tarpon, after we landed the second, our arms were worn so we tried for the Permit. They were much smaller in size but fought just as hard, after those two, we asked Eric to drop us off at the raw bar for beer, great time, thanks Eric

Eric, we fished with you last Friday and wanted to say thank you. I appreciate your efforts and REALLY appreciate you putting us on the Tarpon that morning. Sorry my fly skills were better suited for Trout than Tarpon, but I promise so practice on a 12wt. for next time ... Again, thanks for the experience; we'll be back next season.
