Capt. Ryan Carter

Captain Ryan Carter was born to be a fishing guide. Arriving in Key West from Virginia at the tender age of five, Ryan found the waters of the lower keys and Key West to be an ideal playground. Daily Ryan fished and explored the vast back country with family and friends landing his first 100 pound plus Tarpon by age 9.

While attending high school, tournament shark fishing became his obsession. With several wins and notable catches to his credit Ryan increasingly pursued the more elusive sport fish of the shallows on light tackle and fly. Tarpon and Permit became his specialties with a personal appreciation for large predator Barracuda.

Captain Ryan is equally at home on the Gulf wrecks and the natural reef as he is in the shallows but prefers the challenges of "skinny water" in the most remote and isolated fishing grounds of the back country. Here is where Captain Ryan's talent shine brightest.

With a jovial nature and a personable easy going manner in concert with his driving passion to exceed his every guests expectation, Captain Ryan joined the legendary Key West Pro Guides team some five years ago. Today Captain Ryan is a renowned guide known for productive charters while always keeping it fun on the water. A perfect combination of knowledge, perseverance and the highest standard of customer service, Captain Ryan is a valued member of our team and you will enjoy your time together on the water.

Awesome Charter with Capt Ryan Carter!
Wow! What a Fabulous Charter we had with Capt. Ryan!!! He took us on our first ever ocean fishing trip. My 12 year old son wanted to catch sharks as well as snapper, grouper, and jacks. Well, Capt. Ryan delivered everyone one of those, in multitudes!! He took us out for sharks first and Cole had a shark on his line in no more than 5 minutes. He hooked 3 of them in no time and they were BIG. And Capt. Ryan was very patient and instructive with Cole explaining the "how’s and whys". (And he did it with a great sense of humor too). I couldn't have asked for a better Captain for our trip. After catching all those sharks, Ryan took us to different locations for the other fish Cole wanted to catch and he reeled those in quite readily as well. They weren't small ones either!! Ryan has extensive knowledge of sport fishing and knows these waters like the back of his hand. I was very comfortable with him and trusted him with the safety of my son on his boat which was of the utmost importance to me. I highly, highly recommend Key West Pro Guides and especially Captain Ryan Carter. Will look them up again when we return to Key West.

Great fishing experience
I had the pleasure of fishing with Captain Ryan Carter and it was an awesome day of fishing. Captain Ryan was knowledgeable, patient and professional. He put me on the fish and we landed a nice tarpon (70 lbs.) who refused to quit and stayed “hot” for approximately 30 minutes. Captain Ryan’s skill was instrumental in landing the tarpon and getting the photo of a lifetime. We also caught some yellow jacks and jack crevalle’s which were also a blast to catch. Key West Pro Guides were great to work with, Captain Roc has a wealth of knowledge of the Key West fishing scene and they made sure I had no questions or concerns prior to my trip. I highly recommend Key West Pro Guides and Captain Ryan Carter!

1st Tarpon
I had the fortune to embark on the adventure of battling Tarpon.  Capt. Ryan Carter called the evening before our trip and asked if I would be willing to go out early since the bite was happening early morning. Of course he is the pro and I said yes. Got out on the water and within minutes we started seeing the telltale rise of the Tarpon. The first hook up was a small male that we got in hand pretty quickly. The next hook up broke off. (Completely my fault!) Third hook up was a big female that took us on a 2 hour tour of the area. Captain Carter kept us close, hitting the backing only once. He joked with me, coached me, and in time we got her in hand. The experience left me physically drained and emotionally Ecstatic! Almost 2 weeks later I am writing this review and reliving the great time I had with Key West Pro Guides. This was my second trip with them and I will be fishing with them many times more in the future. You can't go wrong with KWPG.

Thanks for the incredible memory!

Catch of the Day!
Captain Ryan was a great guide. After picking up the live bait from his own trap, we headed out for the fish. Pro Guides all have radios to tell each other where the fish are biting and where they are not. That led us to the good eating fish and then the good game fish. Highly recommend! After the fishing the guide cut up the fish and there at Hurricane Hole Harbor, the cafe cooked us a great meal with our own fish.

Unbelievable 5-Stars!!
Took a 6 hour trip with Captain Ryan. The booking process was easy and the communication was stellar. I arrived at the marina at 6am and Cpt Ryan was prepared and ready to leave. Within a short boat ride to our targeted area, out of nowhere we were right in the middle of a school of 100 rolling tarpon. It was a once in a lifetime experience and hadn’t even wet a hook yet. 10 minutes later Cpt Ryan and I were doubled up and I boated a great 50 pounder. I would later realize that this was the perfect size tarpon as he put up a great fight, put on an air show and I was able to get some nice pics boatside before letting him swim to fight another day. After a few minutes of rest and re-positioning, we were in another school of about 20 and I was hooked up again. What I would later find out was a 100 lb+ monster, came rocketing out of the water. If you have never experienced catching, battling and landing a tarpon, you have got to contact Key West Pro Guides. After an hour plus battle, I was finally able to get him boatside for a pic and video and safely release him. Unbelievable!! The rest of the morning we spent on the flats. Hooked a barracuda and ended the day in a nice school of jacks. Many good-sized jacks and lost count of how many we landed. These guys are first class. The name says it all. They are the Pros if you are looking to fish in Key West.
